Mrs. Garrison is an Indiana University graduate. She began her career as a teacher in Indiana,
which was followed by years of operations management for Fortune 500 firms in New York City
and Connecticut. The birth of her son prompted a major lifestyle change. Relocating to
Greenville SC, she owned and operated a successful family restaurant with her family for
16 years. In 1997, her son developed symptoms of iron overload. He was fifteen.
She was instrumental in his diagnosis and treatment, which helped to raise new questions about

therapy. Mrs. Garrison developed the organization's publications, patient record
keeping forms, the highly acclaimed idInsight magazine and books
Guide to Hemochromatosis,
Guide to Anemia
and
Cooking with Less Iron.
